About a year ago I was having a pretty tough time because there were some things I wanted to do, but it didn't look like it was going to work out. Then I came across this verse:
"Delight thyself also in the LORD; and he shall give thee the desires of thine heart. Commit thy way unto the LORD; trust also in him; and he shall bring it to pass." (Psalms 37:4-5)
Wow! There it was in plain English. But as time went on, I wondered what it really meant to "delight" in the Lord. Then just last Sabbath I was sitting in the sound booth waiting for Sabbath School to begin and I read this:
"If thou turn away thy foot from the sabbath, from doing thy pleasure on my holy day; and call the sabbath a delight, the holy of the LORD, honourable; and shalt honour him, not doing thine own ways, nor finding thine own pleasure, nor speaking thine own words: Then shalt thou delight thyself in the LORD; and I will cause thee to ride upon the high places of the earth, and feed thee with the heritage of Jacob thy father: for the mouth of the LORD hath spoken it." (Isaiah 58:13-14)
Wow! There it was! Just what I had be looking for. . .
If I had to put it in one word, it would be surrender. So many times we think we have things figured out, or we are sure that we would really enjoy doing something and then wonder why the Lord doesn't open the doors. But He always knows what is best for us. And as I look back, even though He didn't give me exactly what I asked for, He gave me the desire of my heart. He knows our hearts better than we do and He will give us what is best and what we will be the happiest with if we only surrender everything to Him.
"As for God, his way is perfect: the word of the LORD is tried: he is a buckler to all those that trust in him." (Psalms 18:30)
God is so good!
All the time. . . :)
